Minutes of the Special Meeting of the Rush Township Board of Supervisors

The special meeting of the Rush Township Board of Supervisors was called to order by Chairman Stephen W. Simchak at 4 o’clock p.m.  Those in attendance were Supervisor Robert Leibensperger; Secretary/Treasurer Terri Conville and Clerk/ Assistant Treasurer Marie Skripnek. Vice-Chairman Gilbert was absent for this meeting.  There were approximately nine people in attendance and one reporter present.   The Pledge of Allegiance was then recited.

 

Public Comment

Marion Lazur – wanted to know when she can ask questions about the equipment rental and road bids.  She also inquired about the cost of the labor compliance class, and time of the class that Ms. Skripnek is going to attend on September 15th in Hershey, Pa.

 

Joe Shamonsky –inquired about the location of Ms. Skripnek’s class.  He also wanted to know the process for an item to be put on the monthly agenda.   A discussion followed between the Board members about the monthly agenda, and new business items.   No official action was taken by the Board.

 

Charles Shamonsky- also asked how to request to get an item on the agenda for this month’s meeting.  Simchak told the public they should fill out a form, and bring it to the office for review and research.

 

Marion Lazur- asked the Board for a commitment on the number of days before a meeting must a form be submitted to the office for review.  Simchak stated that he is not giving a definite answer right now, but whoever submits it we would respond to it personally if at all possible.   Ms. Conville also stated that any letter addressed to the Rush Township Board of Supervisors will get mentioned and accepted in the correspondence file for that month.

 

Opening of Bids

Equipment Rental – No bids were received

Road Materials – Bids were received from Slusser Brothers, Eckley Brothers, Hazleton Materials, and Lehigh Asphalt. Ten different items were bid on. (See attached spreadsheet for bid results) Bid_Results_081110

 

New Business

A motion was made by Supervisor Leibensperger to ratify the newspaper advertisements for equipment rental and road materials bids.  Chairman Simchak seconded the motion.  Ms. Conville polled the Board.  Simchak and Leibensperger voted in favor of the motion, carried.  Gilbert was absent.

A motion was made by Supervisor Leibensperger to accept the road materials bids received for review and award at the regular meeting on August 17th.  Chairman Simchak seconded the motion.  Simchak and Leibensperger voted in favor of the motion, carried.  Gilbert was absent.

A motion was made by Supervisor Leibensperger for Marie Skripnek to attend classes on Wednesday, September 15th in Hershey from 8 am to 2 pm pertaining to labor compliance issues and include wages, mileage and substance.  Chairman Simchak seconded the motion.  Simchak and Leibensperger voted in favor of the motion, carried.  Gilbert was absent.

Supervisor Leibensperger read the following announcement:  The Rush Township Administration Office will be closed for public business purposes on Wednesday’s until further notice.  This will begin on August 18th.  Since our web site is up and running the administration needs to enter all public information, and official documents and permits that are required by the township for public use.  Thank you for this temporary inconvenience.

 

Chairman Simchak adjourned the meeting at 4:15 o’clock p.m.
